Swim Lessons

Youth Swim Lesson Schedule

Click here to download the Swim Lesson Registration Form (PDF). You may also register in person at the pool front desk.

Wondering what lesson your child should be in? A very basic way to determine a child's readiness for each level is as follows - however, if you have additional questions you may ask any of the instructors once the pool opens.

Parent & Child:

This class is for children who have not had previous swim lessons and/or are not comfortable in the water. A parent is required to be in the water with their child. The main emphasis is to get the children comfortable in the water and getting their face wet. Time will be spent teaching the beginning skills of arm movements, kicking, floating, water entry and exit. Parent & Child classes run for 30 minutes and have an instructor/participant ratio of 1:10.

Level 1:

Level 1 is for children who have completed Parent & Child or are comfortable in the water. Some water adjustment may still be needed as this may be their first experience without a parent in the water. Skills such as floating (front & back), blowing bubbles, jumping in (assisted), kicking, and arm movements will be taught. Children will remain in Level 1 until they are comfortable in the water without a parent and can pass all Level 1 skills. Level 1 classes are 30 minutes and have an instructor/participant ratio of 1:4.

Level 2:

Swimmers will begin to learn combined strokes on front and back, using kicking and arm movements. To pass Level 2, they must be able to perform some skills unassisted by the instructor. Level 2 classes are 30 minutes and have an instructor/participant ratio of 1:4.

Level 3:

In Level 3, stroke development is the main emphasis. Front crawl, backstroke and elementary backstroke will be taught and must be performed for a minimum of 10 yards (unassisted) to pass this level. Level 3 classes are 45 minutes and have an instructor/participant ratio of 1:4.

Level 4:

Building on level 3 skills, the breaststroke and sidestroke will be added. Turns at the wall will be introduced. Level 4 classes are 45 minutes and have an instructor/participant ratio of 1:6.

Level 5, 6 & 7:

Swimmers are becoming proficient at these levels and more difficult skills will be introduced and all skills refined. Level 5, 6 and 7 classes are 45 minutes and have an instructor/ participant ratio of 1:6.

Private Lessons are available at all levels.

To arrange for private lessons, please speak with Andy, the Pool Director, or the instructor you wish to have teach your child
